Two Friends with Foreclosed Homes

Your Ad Here
We've recently had two friends have their homes foreclosed on. One was due to a "mix up with paperwork" with the bank (I don't know the details other than the bank ended up with the house) and one was a simple foreclosure (as far as I know.) It's been pretty shocking because even though we don't know either couple closely, we do know them -- and they are the first we've known to be hit with home losses in this way. There were 1 million foreclosures last year -- and it looks like the worst is yet to come.… Read the whole article...

This post is from staff writer April Dykman. Lending money to friends and family is a generous act — one that could easily backfire and even ruin your relationship. Most of the time when someone is considering a loan to a family member, I think, “Don’t do it.” But when it’s someone you care about, logic only plays one role in the decision-making process. Not too long ago I was in this situation. (I want to share it, but obviously I also want to be sensitive about revealing personal information, so I’m changing names and other minor details.) I’ve been… Read the whole article...

How to Get Free Financial Help and Give It

Struggle. When whole communities are affected by bad news and financial challenges, moods and momentum slow way down. It’s hard to find the way out of the downward spiral. I say turn that spiral in the opposite direction and lighten up together. Photo by blmurch via Flickr What’s an opposite spiral? Essentially, every person we touch is a communication point. Since women are connectors, we are innately built to help one another in this networking way. You help Chandra. Chandra helps Claire. Claire helps Jill. We spiral out. Now’s the time to offer your networking circles to your communities. Lend… Read the whole article...

Other People’s Priorities Don’t Have to Be Your Priorities

Kelly writes in: In the past three months, I’ve paid off all but $2,000 of my credit card debt. I feel happier about my money than I have in a long time. The only problem is that my social life seems to be falling apart. I don’t have as much interest in the things my friends are spending their money and time on and I find myself doing other things a lot. What do you suggest? Bear with me for a second as I go down a bit of a strange road. I’ll admit it. I’m not a good housekeeper,… Read the whole article...

New Car Buying Tips: How To Get The Best Deal On A New Car

Buying a new car is a big deal, especially when it is your first.  In 2002, when I was 17, my parents bought me a beat up black 1999 Grand Prix that I absolutely loved.  I put that puppy through a lot and it was passed down to both my younger brothers before making its way back to me.  This past summer, my beautiful baby died — about a year earlier than I hoped and left me stranded. I have no debt and despite the preaching of many to never by a new car, I felt it was the right… Read the whole article...
