The U.S. unemployment rate continues to remain high at 9.1%. This means that many Americans are collecting their unemployment insurance payments, and many are doing so for the first time ever. Now that the tax season is here, some people are left wondering if unemployment payments are taxable or not. I had the same question when I worked on my father’s tax returns last year. The short answer is yes, unemployment income is taxable. Since unemployment income is treated as normal income, the amount is taxable.

The Associated Press reports a new finding by FICO, Inc. that 25.5 percent of consumers, or nearly 43.4 million people, currently have a credit score of 599 or less. With a quarter of the nation suffering from credit card debt and poor credit scores, it’s obvious that many are not aware of the number of factors that can lower their credit scores.

I think that the younger Americans in their 20s and 30s are much more focused on quality of existence versus previous generations. As such, these individuals worth experiences, worth their time, and worth the possibility of early retirement. With market crashes, high unemployment, bankrupt social safety, underfunded pension plans, and much more ugly economic elements, the possibility of conventional retirement has been compromised significantly for many Americans.
